However, in 2019, New Line Cinema announced Salem's Lot, a film adaptation of King's book directed by Gary Dauberman, a writer for Andy Muschietti's It films and director of Annabelle Comes Home. While the original sequel film A Return to Salem's Lot was released in theaters in 1987, King's frightening vampire novel has never had a direct, theatrical adaptation.

The novel has been adapted numerous times since its publication, the first of which was a 2-part miniseries in 1979 starring David Soul and Reggie Nalder.
